Much to everyone's surprise I decided to run a Western event. Western riding in the game is often just looked over, and people normally do Cross Country, dressage and show jumping, which are all forms of English riding. Like English riding there are many forms of Western. We normally do Pole bending and barrel racing. But I taught everyone some trail and reining. It went very well and we got n event I'd planned for an hour in 45 minutes. First I look everyone around a western trail I'd made. In trail you have to walk, trot and canter, as well as gallop. We had lots of fun doing it, and we had a lot of cheaters (those people who decided to gallop and not trot). But it was all good fun!
We then proceeded onto reining. We weren't making a routine, simply learning the movements. We started by playing a game. I'd say a western movement and they'd all try and guess what it was. Then I'd correct them/ confirm it. Here are some of the movements: Circles - basically you ride your horse around in a circle (no way!), normally in a slow gallop or canter. Rundown - You gallop about 20 meters along the side of the arena. It normally ends in another movement. Sliding stop - First you do a rundown and then you stop your horse and let it skid to a stop. Backup - you need to back the horse up for about 10 meters. Rollback - you need to perform a rundown and bring your horse to a sliding stop, but as you stop you need to turn 180 decrees. Turnarounds - you need to basically just turn around 180 or 360 decrees. Hesitate - pause for X number of seconds. After we went through all these, we finished by me saying a movement and everyone doing that movement! Well trying to. I enjoyed doing a lesson that was a bit different and I hope this will happen more in the future.
